Knowledge:
The stethoscope is used two principles: vibration produces sound, and sound is vibration. There is a vibrating sheet in front of the stethoscope. The stethoscope will vibrate follow the Human organs. The vibrating sheet vibrates to produce sound, which can be transmitted in solids. So the sound passes through the solid to the ear by vibrating sheet.
Sound is the propagation of vibration, which is absorbed by the air as it transmits forward in the air, so it does not transmit very far, but in some solid object it can spread far. In ancient times, there was a method of "Hear the sound from the ground", which was used to judge the enemy's situation, and from the tras we could hear the trains coming far away. This was the principle of the earliest stethoscopes, using solids to transmit sound. It is the working principle of stethoscope that the sound to transmit centrally in the air in the tube, reducing the dispersion of sound and increasing the loudness.
